USITO Call for Comments: SAC/TC 286 Releases Draft Standard on Procedures for Standards Involving Patents
On Sept 1, the China National Institute of Standardization published a notice seeking comments on SAC/TC 286’s draft revision of the recommended national standard Special Procedures for the Development of Standards—Part 1: Standards Involving Patents. The draft establishes procedures for identifying and addressing patents throughout the standards-development lifecycle, including the proposal, project approval, drafting, public consultation, technical review, approval, publication, implementation, and review stages. It also requires parties submitting comments on draft standards to disclose any relevant patents known to them and provide supporting documentation. Once finalized, the revised standard will replace GB/T 20003.1—2014. Companies that participate in standards development or own patents that may be essential to implementing Chinese standards may wish to review the draft. The official comment period closes on October 26. Members wishing to submit comments through USITO should provide feedback by September 17 for USITO’s first round of comments.
