Trusted Cloud Computing Summit Held in Beijing

Last week, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the China Academy of Information Communications Technology (CAICT) and the China Communications Standards Association (CCSA) jointly hosted the China Trusted Cloud Computing Summit in Beijing, drawing a crowd of more than 3,000 over the two-day event.

During his opening remarks, MIIT Chief Engineer Zhang Feng told attendees that China has made great strides in developing its own cloud technology, but that the gap in cloud computing and Big Data core technology remains relatively large.

Wang Ying, director of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) office of government procurement management, provided an analysis of his ministry's efforts to advance government procurement of cloud services, highlighting four areas:

  • Devise better ways to assess cloud costs based on diverse cloud services
  • Establish clear standards for cloud procurement
  • Get cloud adopters to make innovative uses of the technology
  • Further improve the implementation of "Green Procurement" policies
