MIIT Issued Four Licenses for 5G Basic Telecommunications Services

On Jun 6, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued four Basic Telecommunications Services licenses for the 5th generation of mobile networks (5G) to China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and the China Broadcasting Network.

During the press conference, Minister Miao Wei mentioned their focus on 5G commercialization would include the Industrial Internet, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Internet Connected Vehicles (ICV). Also, he restated the Digital China strategy for hi-tech industrial applications and commercial practices in the domestic market.

It should be noted that in his speech, Minister Miao strongly welcomed the participation of foreign companies in China's 5G market. However, Minister Miao did not specify the precise conditions under which foreign investment would be permitted.
