MIIT Establishes 13th FYP Big Data Working Group

 

With drafting of the 13th Five Year Plan officially underway, relevant government ministries are now convening working-level meetings to discuss key development areas in the ICT sector. Last week, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published a news release stating that they had officially kicked-off drafting work in the area of Big Data, and that the MIIT Informatization and Software Service Industry division would spearhead the creation of a Big Data 13th Five Year Plan core working group.

 

According to the press release, MIIT deputy director general Chen Ying will serve as the director of the working group, alongside six vice-directors, including vice-president Liu Duo of the China Academy of Information Communications Technology (CAICT).

 

Chen Ying told attendees of the working group's kick-off meeting that China's information industry is critical to national competitiveness, and that while China previously lagged behind in the traditional software sector, it has already reached a very competitive and advanced level in Big Data technology.

 

According to the press release, specialized meetings will be convened by the core working group to discuss industrial Big Data, Big Data open sharing, Big Data exchanges, Big Data security and Big Data applications.
