Information Security Emphasized in Smart City Development

On January 22, Premier Li Keqiang presided over the State Council Executive Meeting in Beijing, promoting smart city development through "Internet Plus" for better public services and public security.
 
Specifically, there expects to be 5 trends of China's smart city development in 2016:
  • Supported by public-private partnerships and government services procurement, an increasing number of Internet companies will get actively involved through industry applications and cloud computing
  • Big data mining and cloud-based data centers will be the key for smart city platforms integration
  • Information security will be of strategic emphasis, classifying infrastructure and information resources with corresponding levels of security control and risk evaluation.
  • Led by government investment, private investments and market fund will gradually play a bigger role in smart city construction and management
  • Intelligent community will be the focus of development, fully leveraging new-generation technologies such as Internet and Internet of Things
According to a news article from the China Government Procurement website, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development plans to invest over 500 billion RMB in smart cities over the 13th FYP period, which will bring estimatedly thousands of billions of RMB-value market for relevant industries and enterprises in China. China aims to build a batch of smart cities with Chinese characteristics by 2020, as laid out in the previously published National Plan of New Urbanization (2014-2020) and the Guiding Opinions on Promoting Healthy Development of Smart Cities.
