CAC Takes Steps to Improve Personal Information Protection

On July 27, Xinhua News Agency reported that CAC, MIIT, MPS and SAC jointly initiated a special project in enhancing personal information protection and will review privacy provisions of 10 selected cyber products and services for companies, including WeChat, Taobao , Weibo, JD, Alipay, Gaode Map (amap), Baidu map, Didi Chuxing, Umetrip, and Ctrip. 

The focus of the privacy provision review includes: 

• Clearly informing the subject of detailed personal information and collection method
• Clearly informing people of the rules for using personal information, such as user profiling and its purposes for pushing commercial ads or others
• Clearly informing users of their rights to access, delete, and correct his or her personal information.
