Tuesday, September 25, 2012

8:00AM - 10:00 AM  Music Room, the Capital Club

(京城大厦50层京城俱乐部音乐厅)

The US Information Technology Office (USITO) and AmCham China's Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Forum are pleased to invite you to the next briefing in their ongoing breakfast series, this time featuring Charles M. Firestone, executive director of the Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program, and Reed Hundt, chair of the Aspen Institute IDEA (International Digital Economy Accords) Project.

The Internet is the most robust medium of information exchange in history. Barring technological and cultural disruptions, the world's populace will soon be on a single common digital platform. This global medium can promote personal well-being, economic growth and beneficial social change.

With over half billion people connected, the Internet is exploding in China. At the same time China is seeking a far more significant role in global Internet governance. How does the perspective of the Internet as a common communications medium fit in China's situation? How should China view the ongoing debate in the West of a multi-stakeholder approach to Internet governance?

The Aspen Institute is working with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to invite specialists from China and United States to confer on important issues on the Internet economy and governance based on discussion of the Aspen IDEA principles.

Engaging businesses and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the design of enduring principles and of a governance system that implements those principles, the IDEA project aims to establish a fair, effective and empowering system for governing the flow and use of data in a single global digital economy.

Join us to learn more about the IDEA project and to discuss the China Internet governance and policy issues with the leading US experts from the Aspen Institute.

This event is off-the-record.
