Since its founding in Washington, DC in late 1994, USITO has grown to become the leading policy-centered independent NGO focused on the ICT industry in China. USITO established its main office in Beijing in 1995, providing China ICT industry and policy research and analysis for a consortium of three founding parent US IT industry associations, namely the American Electronics Association (AeA, www.aeanet.org), the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA, www.siia.net), and the Telecom Industry Association (TIA, www.tiaonline.org). Since that time, USITO has prospered, and now also represents the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA, www.sia-online.org). USITO also represents about 50 individual US-based companies actively engaged in China drawn from across the spectrum from semiconductors, computing, networking and software to telecoms, broadcasting and digital content-in a word, anything related to the creation, distribution and consumption of things digital.
USITO acts as a catalyst, sparking new insights and approaches to address the many complex challenges facing our industry and the US-China economic relationship as a whole. USITO achieves this by providing effective channels for engagement between our members and government, academe and other industry groups on policy and regulation, as well as forward looking developmental modeling for the ICT industry. To this end, USITO supports four member-driven policy groups that focus on the key issues identified by policy framers in the US and China, namely Innovation and Competitiveness, Convergence and Digital Media, Sustainability, and Entrepreneurship. USITO also provides specialized research products as well as events and programs that serve to advance the work of its policy groups. USITO also works closely with other international policy and think tank organizations focused on overcoming obstacles and realizing the benefits to all of an open and dynamic Chinese ICT market place.
